When someone hears the phrase “most iconic Christmas song of all time,” they often mistakenly associate it with Mariah Carey’s pretty OK holiday number, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
And while that song is festive and all, it doesn’t really come close to ~sleighing~ in the way that another underrated holiday classic does.
That’s right, we’re talking about Britney Spears’ iconic 2000 avant-garde holiday banger, “My Only Wish (This Year).”
Sure, a lot of people “like” the song, but it never seemed to garner the fervent adoration/worship/off-brand religious sect it duly deserves.
Upon its release, “My Only Wish” received mixed critical reviews from joy-fearing Scrooges/hate-mongering Xtina stans and peaked at #49 on Billboard’s Holiday Songs Chart in 2010.
The song apparently killed it in South Korea, though.
But the cold, hard, snow-covered truth is that “My Only Wish” is literally the best Christmas song of all time, and it’s about time we recognized it.
The beat is spectacular.
A straight up jolly jam.
The lyrics aren’t just hella festive, but they’re also poignant AF.

Last night I took a walk in the snow
Couples holding hands, places to go
Seems like everyone but me is in love
Santa, can you hear me?
And, yes, Brit is even credited as a co-author.

Don’t question it.
Simply put, “My Only Wish (This Year)” is a true American/South Korean holiday classic.
So while family and friends are important and stuff, this holiday season, be sure to remember the true reason for the season.
Britney Spears’ “My Only Wish (This Year),” of course.
Now that you’ve seen the light, get out there and spread the gospel of Christmas-ney!
