In a state like Colorado, it’s not hard finding people who like to smoke weed. Especially when you have an app like High There, a Tinder-esque tool that connects stoners with other stoners based on common interests, such as their energy levels while smoking and post-smoking activities.
High There CEO Todd Mitchem says he got the idea to invent the app after a date ended quickly after it was revealed that he smoked pot. “We wanted to build a cool piece of technology that solved the problem of where do millions and millions of cannabis consumers go to meet people, connect with people and build relationships. A lot of people say we’re the Tinder of weed, but that’s only one facet of the whole thing. It’s so much bigger.”
He’s definitely right about that, because now the app is hitting the road. Although weed is legal in Colorado, you still cannot legally enjoy it in a public place, such as a bar or restaurant. you could go to someone’s house, but it’s difficult to smoke a bowl with your friends anywhere else. You can, however, smoke in the passenger area of a taxi or limousine.
Enter High There. They created the Hopper, a 20-passenger limo-style bus that travels along designated routes and picks people up, who can then smoke along the way. You have to bring your own stash, but the ride is free.
The Hopper uses High There’s current app to show the routes and stop points where they can get on. They can even see where the Hopper is at the time, much like Uber. The user can also reserve a spot for a portion or all of the stops.
Co-founder Darren Roberts says, “The Hopper combines these two elements of innovative tech and social responsibility to create a killer utility that we know cannabis consumers in Denver will gravitate to as a fun and responsible way to meet people and consume.”
Currently the Hopper is only available near Denver, but the company has plans to roll out the bus to other states like Oregon and Washington where cannabis is legal.
